Kamali Waistcoat | Flecked Tweed

Kamali has been our tailor for years, working out of his workshop in Bow. Every project leaves offcuts, and rather than throw them away, he kept them. Ten years’ worth, as it turned out. One day he turned them all into waistcoats: about a hundred of them, in whatever fabric happened to be left over. Some good tweeds, some odd prints from old dress fabric. Each one exists once. When it’s gone, that fabric is gone with it.

Wool is a natural insulator, warm without being heavy, and naturally resists odour and creasing better than most fabrics. It’s more delicate than cotton or linen, so it needs gentler handling. Tweed is a rough-textured woolen fabric, often with flecks of colour spun into the yarn before weaving, giving it a mottled, hand-made look.
